Woven with Tradition: Our new natural dyed rugs
We’re so excited to launch our new collection of hand-woven rugs. In an era where so much is mass produced and machine-made, we always try to champion artisan producers that keep centuries old techniques and traditions alive.
These hand-woven cotton rugs are made by master artisans in the villages outside Jaipur. Although we have stocked striped rugs before, we’ve never had a collection where the cotton is dyed using natural materials. These natural dyes made from local plants and vegetables add the most amazing tones and depths of colour that is just not possible to create with synthetic dyes.
Natural Beauty: The Art of Vegetable Dyes
What sets these Jaipur rugs apart is their natural vegetable dyeing process. Instead of chemical-laden synthetic dyes, artisans use age-old techniques passed down through generations—relying on nature’s palette:
- Indigo for deep blues
- Turmeric for golden yellows
- Madder root for earthy reds and pinks
- Pomegranate rind and iron for soft greys and browns
This not only makes the rugs non-toxic and eco-friendly, but also ensures that the colours age gracefully over time, developing a rich patina that adds character.
Sustainable Living
In a world that’s waking up to the importance of sustainability, choosing handcrafted home is a meaningful way to reduce your impact. Our hand-woven rugs are made from 100% natural cotton, dyed with plant-based colours, and produced in small numbers, ensuring low waste and minimal environmental footprint.
Plus, they’re biodegradable, making them a smart choice for eco-conscious consumers.
When you choose a hand-woven cotton rug from Jaipur, you’re not just buying a floor covering—you’re investing in a piece of heritage. It’s a daily reminder of the beauty of slow living, mindful choices, and the timeless magic of handmade artistry.
