The Baby Boudoir Pillowcase dates back to 18th century France, to a lady's private sitting room, the Boudoir; the name comes from the French word bouder, meaning “to sulk” or “to withdraw.”

Although the Boudoir was meant to be a quiet place to retreat to, these rooms were unapologetically decorative, with ornamental accents on every surface, including small accent cushions (Boudoir Pillows) scattered across chaise longues, chairs and day beds.
By the Victorian era, French interior style had swept into British homes, and the term stuck. The pillows stayed small, intended to be purely decorative rather than for serious sleep.

Fast forward to today, and although modern houses no longer contain Boudoirs, the Boudoir or Baby Pillowcase is still much-loved as a bedroom accent or timeless accessory in a child's room or nursery.
Measuring just 30cm x 40cm, these little pillows work brilliantly layered in front of standard pillowcases, adding some extra depth and interest to a bedroom.

In a nursery, they are not designed to be used for sleeping by children, but are perfect as a decorative accent, or for nursing mothers.
Although often referred to as baby pillows, these are not just for the little ones. Teenagers love them to bring a touch of luxury to dorms at boarding school or university halls.

For regular travellers, they are so soft they can easily be popped in your hand luggage and are so much more comfortable than any other standard donut-shaped travel pillow.
Baby Boudoir Pillowcases also make a very special and personal gift, turning a home accent into a keepsake.

All of our baby pillowcases can be personalised with an embroidered name, date, initial or meaningful work or saying.
Perfect as a present for a new baby, a christening gift, a wedding momento or something meaningful for a child or godchild on a special day.
From French Sitting Rooms to modern day bedrooms and nurseries, these little pillows are something very special.
