Each double sided kantha scarf is completely unique. They are made by stitching together two different pieces of silk with very small stitches, and normally with contrasting coloured threads. These scarves have been made by women in the villages of Gujurat, India. The stitching is called 'Kantha', which derives from the Urdu word for 'rag' - poor rural women used to collect rags and stitch them together with these tiny stitches, to make blankets out of layers of fabric, to keep themselves warm during the colder winter months. Now, Kantha has become a popular embroidery technique and is traditionally found in India and Bangladesh. The shawls measure approximately 85cm x 190cm. Hand wash in luke warm water or dry clean.
